Lima Memorial Health System is expanding access to advanced spine care with a new treatment now available through Dr. Jeffrey S. Lobel, Neurosurgeon and Medical Director of Neurosurgery at Lima Memorial. A recognized leader in motion preservation technologies of the spine, Dr. Lobel is now offering prodisc® total disc replacement – an innovative procedure for patients suffering from chronic neck or back pain caused by damaged spinal discs.

Unlike traditional spinal fusion, which permanently joins two bones and limits movement, prodisc® total disc replacement technology involves removing the damaged disc and replacing it with an artificial one. This option relieves pain while preserving motion and flexibility in the spine.

“Most of my patients find relief through non-surgical care,” said Dr. Lobel. “But for those who do need surgery, total disc replacement offers excellent long-term results while allowing patients to keep moving. It’s a minimally invasive option that can truly improve quality of life.”

Dr. Lobel now offers the full range of prodisc® implants from Centinel Spine – the only company in the U.S. providing total disc replacements for both the neck and lower back. This technology allows Dr. Lobel to select the best-fitting implant based on each patient’s unique anatomy, offering a more customized and effective solution than traditional, one-size-fits-all approaches.

With more than 275,000 procedures performed worldwide and more than 540 peer-reviewed papers, prodisc® is the most researched disc replacement technology available today. It has been shown to reduce the need for additional surgeries and maintain natural movement in the spine.

For lower back procedures, the prodisc® L implant is currently the only disc replacement system in the U.S. approved for use at two levels of the spine. Expanded insurance coverage is also helping more patients gain access to this treatment.
